My very first post!

OK, I've been studying blogs long enough and my procrastination is over.  I am sure these first few posts will be a real learning curve for me as they were for everyone before me. So here we go!
I hope to share, document, and challenge myself with my home design projects and journal them here. We just sold our last home in Wilmington, North Carolina and we are living in a rental while we build our next home. Being empty nesters our needs have changed quite a bit since the last home we designed for ourselves.  We do not have a second home and do not want to acquire one. Our three children are creating families of their own and they love to visit and bring their children and we love to have them! So, I am designing this house with that in mind. We live in a little beach town, consequently, my children, in pursuit of careers have landed in NYC, and Raleigh.
When we designed and built our last home, I found the entire experience to be a real adventure. That was in 1994.  For the most part, it has been a lovely home to raise our 3 children.
I became a Master Gardener while designing the garden and it has been on several garden tours over the years. The garden was wonderful venue for parties.

The parties were legendary, and I loved doing them!

Friends often say "How could you leave that beautiful tree?".  It wasn't easy but a few key factors helped me decide.  For one, I fell madly in love with swimming in salt water pools. My best friend and neighbor got one and I would ride my bike over at 8am every morning in the summer and we would get in the deep end, dog paddle and talk over the world's problems.  After day three our stamina built up to a whole hour.  It is such a treat for your body, you feel like you have taken an Epsom's salt bath. Absolutely fabulous! I have never felt so good.  I decided I needed one badly. And thirdly, two of my three children are married, have babies and love to come here for their vacations. If they had found jobs after college in our sweet little town, I could be downsizing. But as it turns out we would really enjoy a little more room and we are not interested in owning a second home. So, this is it.
It was time, we are going to start a new chapter in our lives.  So come tag along with me while I dream and create a new home.
